Work Experience Win for Student Lachlan Clyne (Year 10)

During work experience in Term 3, Year 10 student Lachlan Clyne joined Dare Electrical but never dreamed of what was to come.
“As part of the year 10 student work experience program this year, I recently completed a week-long placement with Dare Electrical and Communications in Moonah. It was a fantastic opportunity to dive into the world of electrical work and see what it’s really like to work as an electrician.
During my time at Dare Electrical, I got to work on a varied range of jobs, both commercial and domestic. One day I’d be helping install new wiring in a local business, and the next, I’d be working on electrical repairs in someone’s home. The variety was something I really enjoyed, and it kept each day interesting. I found that I loved the hands-on nature of the job and the satisfaction that came from seeing a job through to completion.
The highlight of the week, though, was the advice I received from Brendan, the Managing Director of Dare Electrical. He took the time to talk to me about being a sparky and the importance of completing my Tasmanian Certificate of Education (TCE), not just for the education but for the social and personal connections that will stay with me long after I leave school. Brendan emphasized how valuable these connections are as you move into adulthood, and it’s something that really stuck with me.
To top off an already amazing experience, I was thrilled on the last day of work to be offered a School-based Electrical Traineeship with Dare Electrical, which I’ll start at the end of this year. The traineeship will run through Years 11 and 12 and beyond, allowing me to complete my TCE while also gaining hands-on experience in the trade. I’m really excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started on this next stage of my life,” said Lachlan.
Getting a head start on your career, whilst still completing your TCE is a great opportunity. Australian School-based Apprenticeships (ASbA) are able to be completed at The Friends’ School, alongside TCE studies. The Friends’ School currently has Years 11 and 12 students undertaking ASbAs in Construction, Agriculture, Landscape Construction, Early Childhood Education and Care and Retail, all while completing their TCE.
