Curriculum

The curriculum framework for our Primary School is the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP). The Australian Curriculum is delivered through this programme. Our early years teaching and learning is informed by the Early Years Learning Framework (Belonging, Being, Becoming).

Students are encouraged to be agents for their own learning, sharing responsibility for their growth and learning success.

The IB PYP is a program of inquiry where students are encouraged and supported to learn through structured, purposeful and planned learning engagements catering for different learning styles, interests and needs.

Students are encouraged to be agents for their own learning, sharing responsibility for their growth and learning success.

Learning includes the development of conceptual knowledge at a local, national and international level to develop a rich intercultural understanding, becoming global citizens.

Assessment and feedback for students is ongoing and is focused on growth over time and clear future learning goals.

The IB PYP framework organises learning under six trans-disciplinary themes.

These themes allow students to consider ideas of global significance.

These themes are:

  • Who we are,
  • Where we are in place and time,
  • How we express ourselves,
  • How the world works,
  • Sharing the planet and
  • How we organise ourselves.

Learning through these themes occurs at each year level, with student understanding of the world developing in complexity over time.

Where possible all learning areas, including Mathematics, English, Art, Music, Language and Physical Education, are taught through these themes.
